Meet Carolin Thysell, VP Group Accounting at Gränges, enjoys the good mix between crunching numbers, interacting with great colleagues and learning about the rolled aluminium industry.
I live in a suburban to Stockholm together with my husband and our three children. I have a background as an auditor and used to work for PwC. Before I started at Gränges I worked at a large security company with reporting and consolidation.
I used to audit Sapa (Gränges) during my time at PwC and back then I could not imagine that I would work at Gränges one day. When I joined the company in 2008 it was a total different company compared to the one that I had audited. From the IPO in 2014, it was a large shift in the company structure and culture. I think that Gränges is a great mix of a large listed company and an organization that has managed to maintain a decentralized model.

Well, off course we do a lot of accounting and reporting. Within our scope is also tax and internal control. Our vison within finance is that we should be a business partner to the Gränges’ organization by proactively supporting value creation while delivering accurate information in a compliant, timely and efficient manner.
A typical day starts with a cup of coffee followed by going thru the emails. Since we have 12 monthly closings, 4 quarterly reports, 3 revised forecasts, 1 base forecast and 1 annual report it is very likely that the remaining part of a typical day for me involve some kind of reporting activity.
I really like my job at Gränges, it is a very good mix between crunching numbers, interacting with great colleagues all over the world, as well as learning about the rolled aluminium industry.
Digitalization and AI is not something new within accounting, but the shift towards more automation is going very rapid at the moment.
I will borrow the idea from my colleague Filip Fernqvist that Gränges should invest in some ping pong tables. I think it will be very good for both the creativity and health.
I really like downhill skiing and try to go to the Swedish mountains at least twice a year.
